Conversion Methods:
1. Calculating Wire Radius from Cross-Sectional Area:To calculate the wire radius based on its cross-sectional area, use the formula for the area of a circle:Wire Cross-Sectional Area (mm²) = π (3.14) × Wire Radius² (mm²)
2. Calculating Wire Diameter from Cross-Sectional Area:The same principle applies when calculating the wire diameter. For example, for a 2.5 mm² wire:2.5 ÷ 3.14 = 0.8. Taking the square root gives 0.9 mm.Therefore, the wire diameter is: 2 × 0.9 mm = 1.8 mm.
3. Calculating Cross-Sectional Area from Wire Diameter:To calculate the cross-sectional area based on the wire diameter, use the area of a circle formula:
Wire Cross-Sectional Area = π (3.14) × Wire Diameter² / 4
4. Calculating Stranded Cable Cross-Sectional Area:Cable sizes are also denoted by their cross-sectional area in square millimeters. For stranded wires, the total area is the sum of the cross-sectional areas of all individual strands. The calculation formula is:0.7854 × Wire Radius² (mm²) × Number of Strands
For example, for a 1.5 mm² wire with 48 strands (each strand having a radius of 0.2 mm):0.7854 × (0.2 × 0.2) × 48 ≈ 1.5 mm².
